Description
In December 2005 there was a major fire at Buncefield Depot, an oil storage facility in Hemel Hempstead (several miles west of London). This is at least 20 miles from where I live, but the smoke made the skies go dark even at that distance. I tried taking photos of the clouds of black smoke, but it was simply too big to capture - it WAS the sky, and there was no frame of reference to show it as anything beyond a dark, cloudy day.
However, I saw this shot and took it - the sun shining at midday.
Looking at it even now, I can remember the smell of the oil, and the feeling of the residue in the air.

when you look at the cause, it almost gives the pic a "beauty out of pain" feel....
